I am a first-year master’s student studying Artificial Intelligence. My background is in software engineering, but I am also very interested in research. I want to learn how to do research and contribute to the field of AI. My main research interests are in natural language processing and making AI systems that are secure, fair and ethical. I have some experience with natural language processing research, and I want to build on that. As I continue my studies, I am excited to expand my knowledge and skills, and find ways to use AI to make a positive impact.

Aug 2024: Started participating in a one-year research program in Machine Translation. :)

Jul - Aug 2024: Participated as a TA in the AddisCoder 2024 program, where I taught basic programming and data structure and algorithm concepts. I also handled operational tasks to ensure the smooth running of the program.

Apr 2024: Collaborated on a paper titled “Culturally-diverse Multilingual Visual Question Answering Benchmark.”

Dec 2023: My LLM evaluation work, done under the mentorship of Hellina Hailu Nigatu, was presented as a poster at two workshops: the Black in AI workshop co-located with NeurIPS’23 and the WiNLP workshop co-located with EMNLP’23.

Oct 2023: Started my MS in Afteficial Intelligence.

Jul - Aug 2023: I served as a TA at the AddisCoder 2023 program.

Jul 2023: Graduated with great distinction from Addis Ababa University with a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering.
